rock lobster

I have regular dinner dates with some girlfriends from university and we ended up at Rock Lobster for our most recent date a couple weeks ago. We are all food lovers and had been wanting to try this seafood haven for a while. The restaurant is located on the Ossington strip and has a casual, laid back vibe. The massive seafood bar is one of the first things you see when you walk in and the lobster, shrimp and oysters are all piled high. I had a tough time picking what I wanted to eat and was so happy when I realized I was with some good sharers :) We went lobster heavy on our dish choices which ended up being a very smart decision. Everything was super tasty and the lobster tail caesar was a deliciously unique highlight.

sunnies

Wishlisted.

of a kind

I am so in love with Of a Kind. Basically, it's a website that curates a collection of new designers' works that are created as limited editions (e.g. only 50 of an item) and makes them easily available on one single website. Here's what they have to say about themselves.
Every single piece is so original and beautiful - I want everything! Personally, the limited edition factor just makes every piece more special and I feel like it would make you treasure your purchase so much more - plus you're supporting a super cool new artist who appreciates your support.

I went pretend shopping and choose these goodies....

Wouldn't this be rad to serve some cocktails on.

If you could pick, what would you choose?

PS. Isn't this Housewarming Grab Bag an awesome idea.

dresser make over

About a month ago I spent my Saturday morning at a church rummage sale and found this beauty dresser for a whopping $6. D wasn't with me, but I figured I could go ahead and take the risk of the no return option. Turned out the risk was definitely worth it. It took a bit of work but the final result is pretty amazing.
We spent an afternoon sanding the imperfections away (thank G for a belt sander) and later applied two coats of clear varnish. From start to finish, the dresser took on a couple of different looks but we really couldn't be happier with the finished product. As we've browsed through furniture stores, similar pieces sell for upwards of $500 - which makes our less than $10 piece an even sweeter deal! We plan on using it in the living room for extra storage! I'll photograph it in the space and styled once we're at that point :)

I got a new bike! And I am completely obsessed with it. The leather seat is uber comfy, the basket is functionally adorable and I already feel like such a wanna be city girl ( important to note that I also got a new helmet (not pictured)). When we make our move, I will say goodbye to the Pearl (my VW) and alternate between riding to work and taking the TTC. It's a change that I'm a little anxious about, but my new bike is making it a little bit easier. I got it at Bikes on Wheels on Queen West and the guys were super helpful - if you're on the hunt for new wheels, I would definitely suggest checking them out!

white cover up

Although we're moving away from my parents house soon there's no doubt we'll be back spending afternoons by the pool this summer. Wouldn't this dress be perfect to slip on for some weekend relaxing.

There's no having to choose between wine or appetizers - you get the best of both! Potterybarn's Mingling Plate is my kind of party plate!

D's parents are in town this weekend, so we're looking forward to having a good visit and picking up some of the final things for the move. And I have lots more fun stuff coming up on LMS next week that I'm excited to share with you! Until then, enjoy a wonderful weekend. xx

hidden rooftop patio

If you're looking for somewhere to enjoy a cold drink and good food on a great patio this weekend, Gusto might be the hidden gem you're looking for. Tucked away on Portland, it's a great Italian restaurant that sort of takes your typical pub patio to the next level. The staff is friendly and easy going, the food is unbelievable, the wine is served $1 an ounce and the patio is pretty darn awesome. The windows overhead rectract back to expose the guests to the sunshine. My Saturday father-daughter date ended off with a Peroni up here and I can't wait to go back. (foodie tip: the fettucini funghi is outta this world!)

origin liberty

Origin has been on my list of restaurants to try for a very long time. I still haven't visited the original location but we made it over to Origin Liberty last week. The menu is made for sharing and four of us ordered six dishes in total. I find it's rare that every dish is super tasty, but I was happy to find it was the case here. The space was large and modern and shockingly empty for being in Liberty Village - but apparently Friday and Saturday are their big nights.

I didn't photograph all the food but I did manage to get three of the dishes we tried. The fresh mozzarella was served on baguette, topped pear and was drizzled with honey and sea salt. Their spin on a beet salad was to serve a whole beet with a yummy yogurt sauce and goats cheese. And finally, the calamari was so tender and had an amazing caramelized spicy peanut sauce. We also had the arctic char, tostada with guacamole and tomatillo salsa and then spicy spanish fried that were so deliciously crispy! I would be tempted to order what we've already tasted, but there's still lots of new things I'd love to try.

Check out the menu and see what you think - what would you try?

just because

I'm in love with the black and white graphic heel on my new Rosegold heels. So fun for nights out this summer and comfortable too! A friend spotted them at a recent ELuxe sale and when they didn't fit her, I couldn't resist.

bedside tables

We picked these two side tables up for $25 at a church rummage sale a few weekends ago and finished their make over this weekend. We knew they had good bones when we saw them - you can never go wrong with solid wood furniture - and the finished product(s) were definitely worth the elbow grease.
